This boy in the Meno was Greek, â€Å"He is Greek, and speaks Greek, does he not?† (Plato 2). Therefore he knew the language Socrates spoke, and was able to answer questions. However, nobody is born with language. Language is learned; if Socrates were speaking to the boy in German, for example, the boy would not be able to answer the questions, and thus correct language authorizes answers. Mathematical knowledge is simple compared to a subject like language. Which is why Plato chose it rather than another subject which would be harder to prove his theory with, through asking the Greek boy simple questions, the boy was able to do simple mathematical actions such as add, and multiply. Plato took this as explanation, whereas there is better explanation as to why the boy was able to answer correctly; Plato asked leading questions. Plato asked the boy yes or no questions, where the boy hardly had to think about the question, but more about the right answer Socrates was leading him toward. There was a point where the boy answered incorrectly, which is when Socrates stopped as it began disproving his theory. Socrates man ipulated the boy into saying yes to his questions, which highlights how Plato’s theory fallacious. Locke defamiliarizes the theory of innate knowledge and spotlights Plato’s approach to justify his hypothesis was in fact, faulty and incorrect. Locke continues by using â€Å"children and idiots† (Locke 1) as examples regarding lack of innate knowledge. Locke clarifies that, if â€Å"children and idiots† have souls, innate knowledge should be there just as all of mankind, as Plato had proposed. He clarified that Plato’s claim contradicted itself: â€Å"it is evident, that all children and idiots have not the least apprehension or thought of them.† (Locke 1) Locke reminded us, if all knowledge is innate, it’s illogical for people to have variations of intelligence. Why would â€Å"children and idiots† know less than say, a mathematician or scientist? Locke would say it’s because children and idiots haven’t learned, or are incapable of learning. This justifies why some are better at certain subjects than others. â€Å"Chi ldren and idiots† might be able to complete simple mathematical questions, because they have learned how to reason. To justify this, let us look at how the Greek boy is able to answer the questions. Socrates explains a mathematical fact, â€Å"And you know that a square figure has these four lines equal?† (Plato 2) Socrates questions the boy, â€Å"Certainly† (Plato 2) is all he has to respond with to prove the argument. If Socrates had asked the boy, â€Å"What geometric shape has all equal sides?† the boy would have to think for himself, and because he was not taught mathematics, he would not have an answer and therefore Socrates would have no argument. Locke highlighted that Plato’s argument is illogical: â€Å"For to imprint anything on the mind without the mind’s perceiving it, seems to me hardly intelligible.† (Locke 3) Stating that if the mind was imprinted, it should be possible to recollect all the knowledge we have. For a person to know of something without recognizing that they have the knowledge, makes no sense. If the slave boy had mathematics imprinted in his soul, he should have been able to answer more than simple ‘yes’ or ‘no’ questions. If knowledge is innate, then the boy would be able to justify his answers. The boy wasn’t able to answer all of Socrates questions, â€Å"Indeed, Socrates, I do not know† (Plato 5) because he had not been taught mathematics. Any child could stand in front of Socrates and agree with him, but that doesn’t prove innateness. The child did not recollect the knowledge, if it were recollection then all humans could learn thr ough being asked provoking and leading questions like Socrates tried to do with the boy. We know that is not how we learn, rather we learn through examples, explanations, and reasoning. Therefore Locke has disproven Plato’s theory of innate knowledge by demonstrating how Plato manipulated the situation, rather than truthfully proving his theory. Plato may argue against Locke by stating that you cannot recall your past lives, which is why you must experience life to recollect information. Plato believed that all knowledge was innate; you could argue that if that was the truth, shouldn’t all mankind have only that theory of knowledge imprinted on their soul? If the soul carried all truths, there could only be one answer to human knowledge, but since there are many, we can deduce that we experience different sensations that lead us to our individual hypothesis. If all information was innate, why do mathematical and scientific discoveries happen? Discoveries occur when there is a new realization of understanding a certain subject, it is clear that if knowledge were imprinted on the soul, these would not happen. We would have had a heliocentric solar system since the beginning of time, knew the earth spherical, and understood medical procedures; if knowledge was innate. It’s obvious that we’ve had these disco veries because of learning, through sensation and perception we understand the world. Plato also may attempt to contradict Locke’s argument by saying that â€Å"children and idiots† have not experienced the right sensations to lead them to discovery of knowledge that others have. Locke might then argue that innate knowledge is not present in anybody whether â€Å"child†, â€Å"idiot†, or average person. Sensations begin from birth and throughout life we learn. We learn through examples, explanations, and reasoning. Locke could succeed in proving his theory against any counterclaims, making his argument sound against mathematical knowledge being innate. Locke has a large array of arguments to justify empiricism; on the basis of his ideas, it is evident that we gain knowledge through experience, and that mathematical knowledge is not something innate. His arguments disprove Plato’s theory, showing that through sensation and perception, we learn. Through Locke’s arguments he was able to successfully prove that mathematical knowledge is not innate. Locke thus disproves universal consent. He also argues that innate knowledge is not evident in â€Å"children and idiots†, and he further clarifies his theory by explicitly explaining how we learn through observation, sensation and reflection. Locke successfully corroborates his theory of empiricism, as well as disproving Plato’s theory of innate knowledge in the immortal soul.

Student entrepreneurs from around the world took the stage in San Francisco at last weekends Hult Prize 2014 regionals, vying for a trip to the final competition in New York and chance at $1 million in capital to put their social enterprise in motion. Hundreds of teams competed globally on March 8 at Hults five campuses Boston, San Francisco, London, Dubai and Shanghai as well as Sao Paulo. This annual focus of Hult Prize is announced each fall by Bill Clinton, who partners with Hult Prize to host the event. This years  challenge:  solving incommunicable diseases in the urban slum. Hult San Franciscos home team, Amrit  was one of four finalists in the regional San Francisco round of the day-long competition. Forty-seven teams participated locally, pitching their ideas to panelists of high-profile Bay Area professionals. Four teams were selected to advance to the evening portion of the event, where they presented in front of the larger Hult community and their fellow competitors. Excitement was in the air following the 2013 competition, when Hult San Franciscos home team Pulse won the SF regionals. Amrit made the campus proud again this year, advancing to the final four. But it was the team from MIT who came out on top and will compete in the finals in New York. The San Francisco round took over the Hult campus, as well as beautiful Levis Plaza, which was decked out in Hult Prize pink for the evening award ceremony. The ceremony featured a speech by members of last years winning Pulse team, an opera performance by Hult SF student Brandy Chi (recently crowned the winner of the annual Hults Got Talent competition), and an inspirational recorded thank-you message from Clinton himself. The term illegal alien is a much more precise term because it deals with both undocumented aliens as well as nonimmigrant visa overstayers. Both terms illegal alien as well as illegal immigrant are used to describe individuals who have broken the law of our country to enter and work illegally. The majority of the immigrants who come to this country illegally are in search of the American dream, because of their economy crisis in their native countries. The United States is a country that is well known for our equal rights as well as the freedom of speech and globalization as well as a constitution that allows for any citizen to exercise their rights and voice their opinions. Immigration Amnesty helps support and forgives those immigrants who show good character rewarding them with legal status in our country. On the other hand, advocates have felt that illegal immigrants have committed a crime and should also be punished. Other countries are communist or are dealing with a corrupted government on the other hand our governments offers many programs as well as assisting with free education and free health care for immigrants. Although illegal immigration can create tension amongst U. S citizens, it also brings benefits as well as burdens to our government. The Dream Act was passed by the United States in the year 2011 it allowed illegal immigrants to attend college and receive assistance from the government. The law abiding citizens felt that it was not fair for them to have to pay taxes for organization that help support illegal immigration. Many illegal aliens are in search of a better life, leaving there home countries they enter the country with motivations and bring good value along with them. Supporting the illegal immigrant’s view of the â€Å"American Dream† the United States passed the Dream Act bill. The Dream Act Bill provides residency to honorable immigrants who graduate from any U. S High Schools as well as immigrants who have arrived as children and have been residence for at least 5 years. Many of the illegal aliens had been crossed over at such a young age, even as young as infants when they entered the United States. True believers of the Dream Act felt that it was unfair to condemn these individuals to a life of low-paying underground, black market labor for the actions of their parents. For many young immigrants this bill was a benediction to be able to attend school and gain residency. The Dream Act gave opportunity to many immigrants believing that they might be tomorrow’s teacher, firefighter, and even our next president. In contrary many opponents thought otherwise about the Dream Act and what it supported. They feel appalled passing the Dream Act considering the fact that the economy is in a struggle dealing with educational budget cuts, Opposing the Dream Act, many of our citizens have criticized how The Dream Act does not require that and illegal immigrant finish any form of educational degree. Many of current illegal aliens will get federal student loans as well as federal work study programs and Financial Aid. Adopting such a large group of illegal immigrants, citizens wonder who will pay for all these government programs. An immigrant if caught illegally trespassing into the United States is fined and deported back their native country. According to amnesty the illegal immigrants are later forgiven for violating or breaking the law. Amnesty helps assist the illegal immigrant by granting them a privilege of legal citizenship. This legal aid causes tension amongst U. S citizens who are trying to better their financial situations. This town holds a group of people that are not aware of technologies that have progressed throughout time. They are still in houses built by them and farm there food have no electricity or anything like that. And in the town there is a boy who is called David. He lives in a house not any bigger than the rest but out of the way in its own little area of the island. His parents both treat him with no respect and are abusive. Whenever his parents would get angry he would run away into his little hiding spot in a cliff next to the ocean. When he would go in this cliff he would sit down and cry wishing he had someone else for parents or that he had a friend to help him deal with the pain and suffering he is enduring. In this tunnel it goes deep but David has not gone all the way in because when he comes here he had no curiosity and no effort to do anything but cry. One day he was going to his house and saw his parents fighting in the house so instead of going in he went straight into the cave and sat down. Instead of crying he thought he would venture deeper into the cave thinking that it might hold something that can get him out of this painful situation. The cave went deeper and deeper until he was in the center of the island, but underneath it all. As he went in it got warmer and warmer as if there was a giant fire deep inside. When he was walking and sweating from the beating heat he saw a part of the tunnel that lead into an open space four times his houses size but underground. In the room was something unexpected but pleasing at the same time. There in the center sleeping was a Dragon with sharp claws and a deep maroon color to it, its wings acting like a blanket over the entire thing. Although it was a Dragon David still wanted to see more so he went around the Dragon looking it over from head to toe admiring the creature. Soon David did get scared and was starting to leave but he tripped over a rock and landed on the Dragons head. That woke up the Dragon and it sat there looking at him with its deep dark eyes that showed nothing but thought. After a second or two the dragon started stretching its wings and moving its le gs walking around but ever still watching David frozen by fear. The dragon instead of eating him talked, and said "I already know who you are and why you are here the question is how can I help you." David astonished that the dragon talked he still stood there looking at him horrified and confused because of the Dragon. After a few seconds David got his wits back and said "what do you mean, how can I help you?" after all he is only human and this is a magnificent dragon that can breathe fire and fly. The dragon replied "I know you are in a tough situation and I can't understand that so I want you to ask me what you need because I cannot tell you what you need or I would already be doing it." Well the boy said I could use some help getting out of here and not living with my parents and I would be in your debt.
